Purchased this crock pot as we had previously owned a Crock Pot brand for the last 20 years. I read the reviews but still purchased it as it was on sale. The exterior does get very hot, but so did the two we previously owned. THe problem is that the "low" setting is way too high and boiled the juices of the turkey breast we tried to cook. It also quickly burned some of the food on the low setting. I would never advise leaving the house with this unit on, which is kind of the purpose of using a slow cooker. I am taking this back. I rarely write reviews, but this thing is DANGEROUS.

The whole point of purchasing a slow cooker, for me, was to start dinner before I left home for work. Alas, though I did not want to believe the reviews (given that the name brand is practically synonymous with slow cookers), they are true: the heating element is tremendously high on this unit.

Twice this week, my food was burned or dried out. Today, I decided to make two more attempts while supervising the process; first, with a green bean casserole, and then with chicken. The green beans I set to low, and after ONE HOUR the edges of the casserole were already drying out and the liquids were bubbling - the recipe was for four hours on low. The latter was set to high and was supposed to cook for three to four hours, but after one hour the edges were burning.

Do yourself a favor and look for a different slow cooker, maybe even one from a different brand. In addition to "simply" ruining your dinner, it can potentially be a safety/fire hazard. I know that I will be returning mine tomorrow!

I actaully bought these 2 for gifts. I already own one just like it! I love mine! The removable crock is the best, makes clean up a breeze! My 2 friends were very excited to get theirs and I am sure will enjoy years of Crock Pot cooking! I mean really who doesnt have a crock pot!
